A hub of creativity and development

With the launch of the sewing center, the women have been able to harness their talents, explore their creative skills  and expand their businesses. Multiple sewing machines, embroidery machines, drafting tables, draping mannequins and continuous skill training have enabled the women to expand their repertoire of sewing services and to develop quality gifting items.

Through the women’s dedication and talents, projects include sewing Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) for front liners; face masks; gifting items such as toiletry bags, pouches, money bags as well as bags from recycled materials for both individual and corporate orders.

A community for all

As a safe space conveniently located within their vicinity, the community sewing center has simultaneously developed into a community space. Here in this community hub, the women not only mutually support each other in their sewing efforts but interact with each other socially and emotionally, often sharing the ups and downs of their lives.

With spare space to accommodate sofas and tables, the community sewing center has also become an ideal and safe place for children to accompany their mothers whilst they are at work.

Partnerships

The community sewing centre is a good example of partnerships coming together to support a social initiative empowering B40 women and their communities. Through engagements with our community leaders in PR Lembah Subang, corporations, clubs, private donors and government representatives, the centre serves as a valuable community resource in supporting income generating opportunities for the women and providing a platform for the women to grow their businesses in the longer term.
